LOD Matrix User Interface

LOD Matrix User Interface

Introduction

Level of development (LOD) is a set of specifications that gives professionals in the AEC industry the power to document, articulate and specify the content of BIM effectively and clearly.

The LOD Matrix is like a visual spreadsheet that will help you easily define the level of graphical as well as non-graphical detail that you would want in your BIM Models.

Using the LOD Matrix you can choose the LOD that particular elements need to be modeled to, as well as specify Level of Information (LOI) and Level of Accuracy (LOA).

For understanding in detail what LOD, LOI and LOA mean, please read the individual articles for the same.

Choosing the right classification and LOD system

The elements that you will see in the LOD Matrix depend on the classification setting you've done in the Scoper Overview section.

Currently, planBIM supports the following classification systems:

  1. Generic
  2. Omniclass

Similarly, you would need to choose the preferred setting for LOD, LOI and LOA.

Understanding the interface

This is the how the LOD Matrix page typically looks like. Use the numbers as a guide to refer to what the functionality represents.

18. View 3D Model

To view the 3D model, click on the icon as shown in the image above. A pop-up window will appear with a toggle button to switch from a detailed isometric representation of item to its 3D model view where you can rotate the item in order to view it from different angles to get a better perspective of the item. Click and hold your cursor inside the working window to change the viewing angle. Press and hold the scroll wheel of your mouse to have a PAN view.

Using the LOD Matrix

When you first open the LOD Matrix page, you'll see various tabs at the top left. These represent a discipline. You can switch between tabs to cycle between the disciplines.

For example, if you select Generic Classification Setting then in the discipline Structure, under the category of structural framing, one of the elements is Concrete beam.

For example, if you select Omniclass Classification setting, then in the discipline Substructure, under the category of Foundations, under the subcategory Special foundations, one of the elements is Pile Caps.

You can make LOD selections for different phases of a project. Switch between phases easily, with both the web app and the Revit add-in. You can create multiple phases as the project progresses while managing their scope of work.

All the data between LOD and Model Progression Matrices always remains synced for a particular project.
